Chalk as a building material. The vaulted roof has ribs of stone from Caen in France. The webs, the shaped stones that fill the gaps between the ribs, are made from local chalk. The original vaulted roof dates from about 1200 but the chalk webs were replaced in the 1990s. Church of St Mary de Haura Shoreham, Sussex, UK. 08 August 2006.
