Hornets (Vespa crabro), like some other European wasps appear to be becomming common in South-east England. These large wasps have distinctive brown and yellow protective colouration and are much larger than any other wasp seen in the UK. Here a hornet is eating a rotten, mouldy, plum. Bedgebury Forest, Kent, UK. 13 August 2006.
