King Charles' Castle was built in 1550 to protect the strait between Tresco and Bryher and the entrance to what is now New Grimsby Harbour. Its ruins stand on Castle Down above its sucessor, Cromwell's Castle. Tresco, Isles of Scilly, UK. 17 September 2006.
