Detail of seagull at the top of the ornate red granite pillars on Blackfriars Bridge. The bridge was completed in 1869 to a design by Joseph Cubitt. The columns were ornamented by the sculptor J B Philip with birds and flowers. This one on the downstream side depicts marine vegetation and seagulls. City of London, UK. 28 June 2006
