The Royal Military Canal runs from Cliff end to Hythe. It was built during the Napoleonic wars in the first years of the nineteenth centuary to move troops and equipment rapidly through the now drained marshes. It formed part of the defences more commonly associated with the Martello Towers. Pett Level East Sussex, UK. 25 March 2005.
