Marram Grass (Ammophila arenaria) spreads by tough rhizomes from areas of established growth on the sand dunes into new areas where it traps more windblown sand and organic material and cause the dunes to extend and protect the grassland behind them from the sea. Isle of Lewis, Outer Hebrides, Scotland , UK. 06 October 2005.
