The Calanais Standing Stones These stones dating from the second millenium BC are older than the peat that which covers Lewis and were excavated from beneath the peat in the 1980s. They date from a time when the climate in this area was more clement and may be associated with agricultural activity in this area. Callanish Isle of Lewis, Outer Hebrides, Scotland , UK. 06 October 2005.
